Kew Gardens 1st smile

Standard

In my post from 4th August I shared with you that I had become friends with Kew Gardens.

Last weekend

the sun was shining,

birds were singing,

and I felt free.

I made a quick decision

to visit Kew Gardens.

What a good choice!

I was greeted with this view.

Behind the Palm house was the rose garden.

For today I like you to go with me to smell the roses.

Forget the business and enjoy the smells and colours!

There is so much more……

Soon more from Kew Gardens

My special walk

Standard

I heard from Steffi that WordPress is doing this special walk wwwp5k .

A 5k run/walk is approximately 3.1 miles long. That is roughly equal to:

  • Twelve laps around a track.

  • Approximately 6,000-7,500 steps.

  • Approximately 50-60 minutes of brisk walking.

It was any time between Monday, September 19th to Sunday, September 25th, lace up your running/walking/hiking/hopping shoes and join us for the 5k blogged about around the world!

I participated and here is my post

I made it a mindful walk on my own.

My impressions from my walk:

a beautiful church

a cat on the windowsill

and now for the count:

That was a lovely mindful walk,

Why not try a mindful walk yourself,

being fully present,

notice the beauty around you,

enjoy every step you do,

… and you don’t even notice how far you go!

Monday Walk

Standard

Today I am inviting you to walk with me through Rochester in Kent.  A lovely historic small city.  It has a beautiful Cathedral dates back to 604 AD- the second oldest in England.   The  castle is Norman and the 12th-century keep or stone tower, which is the castle’s most prominent feature, is one of the best preserved in England.

Please enjoy the walk with me round the Cathedral and the castle.  Keep your scarf on it is very windy!

In the Cathedral was a display of 3 very old books, one is 100 years older than the Magna Carta and is called Textus Roffenses.  It contains a collection of Anlo Saxon Law of Aethelberht of Kent which dates back to 600AD – it is the only surviving copy of the oldest law in English.

Apparently Henry the VIII took all books from the Cathedral library at his time but left this one behind.  The Lady in the Cathedral said historians still wonder why?

The ABC of Genuine Happiness

W – Walk. Write. Watch the sunset

Walk more today, think clearer tomorrow

Look for outside motivation

Walking is still one of the best exercises you can do.

Walk to better brain health

In a recent study from Maryland University, researchers asked two groups of volunteers age 60 to 88 (half with cognitive impairment, half without) to take a daily walk on a treadmill at moderate intensity.

After 12 weeks of walking activity, the volunteers underwent tests and scans to check cognition. Amazingly, the group with cognitive impairment showed improvements in memory, learning and recall tasks, and better efficiency in areas of the brain linked with Alzheimer’s.

To better the effects, try taking your walk in a green area – in one 2012 study published in Environmental Science & Technology , researchers found that just five minutes of exercise in a green space was enough to benefit mental health and improve self-esteem.

Let’s not forget that getting outside for a stroll does more for your mental well-being than boost your memory. Exercise boosts your happy factor, reduces stress, improves productivity and can reduce symptoms of depression.

And if you think there’s just not enough time in your working day, consider this; in a study of office workers led by Bristol University, those who exercised during their lunch break reported better mood, improvements in time management, better concentration levels and mental performance.

They also felt more able to deal with stress and experienced higher levels of motivation. Sounds like a good excuse for a lunchtime walk!

WRITE

Most of you are fantastic writers… I am more of a reader and enjoy written word!

So keep on writing your good stories!

Watch the Sunset

What better way is there but to watch a sunset!

Every sunset brings you the promise of a new dawn.

A grand day out!

Standard

Talking to fellow bloggers is fun, but meeting them is even better.

Luckily Alastair lives in the same country as me and only a train journey away from London.

We met on Saturday and spent a wonderful day together.

We went on the cable car, walked over the Thames, saw Whitehall, No 10 Downing Street, Trafalgar Square packed with people, Leicester Square, Piccadilly, Buckingham Palalce and went through lovely parks. Of course we stopped at coffee shops and had a dinner break.

We walked miles. We ended up in my all time favourite park, St. James’s Park with lots of ducks, squirrels, and the most beautiful flowers and shrubs.

I played around with my flower pictures and here is the result. Some with quotes.

London seemed to be the friendliest place on Saturday. People smiled, hold doors open, chatted on the underground, gave up seats, and it was one big happy place.

Perfect for having a friend round, so I loved to show my wonderful London to Alastair.

It was such a fantastic day!

If you have time and you are not too far away , you are very welcome to visit and I show you round too!

Get your walking shoes on….

Beautiful Walk

Standard

A friend of mine sent me an email, saying:

“I am going out for a walk. See who’s about and have a word or two about this, that and the other. I am going to do the 2 hour circuit, back through the village, across the river on the road bridge, first right and along the dirt track for a mile or so to a foot bridge back across the river, up and down a hill and I’ll be back home.

It sounds lovely and I would have enjoyed walking  with him, unfortunately he lives in another country.

He sent me this beautiful picture from his walk.

I only walked to the post office but still on this short walk…with my music plugged in my ears,  I enjoyed the blue sky in between the clouds, some red leaves, some yellow leaves and still quite a bit of green leaves on the  trees. So even along High Road it is a joy to walk if you look and concerntrate on the beauty around you and not think of the traffic. I can’t even remember if there was traffic 🙂 How amazing it is how positive  thoughts can make you see beauty around you where no one else can.

This is a picture walking towards High Road!

Enjoy the  beauty around you and enjoy Autumn!

And a special thank you to my friend who sent me the email and the beautiful picture. xx
