Kew – Indonesian Orchid Festival …

by night.

As last year Kew Gardens had Orchid Festival.

This time all Orchids come from Indonesia.

New this year was for me :

I got a slot for Orchids by night.

A different experience which was fantastic.

Not only I see all Orchids

submersed in different lights

also there were Indonesian dancers, music,

food tasters (we had a great Indonesian soup and Ginger Tea)

and a wonderful atmosphere.

Enjoy some of the pictures I took.

My little adventure

Standard

Last week, I flew to Germany to see my sister.

It turned out to be an adventure.

Arriving at the Airport on Sunday morning,

staff checked manually the boarding passes.

Being early as my flight was at 14.35, I walked around, had a coffee and read my book.

Getting closer to the boarding time the board still said – please wait-

I saw other staff walking around shouting the gate number of their flight.

Mine wasn’t one of them.

I received messages from my airline via email that the flight will be delayed.

New departure: 15.00 no 15.35 no 16.00 no 16.35 no 17.50 no 18.01……

The boards went totally blank by then.

Queuing at the service desk for my Airline took long time.

All people in the queue were chatting and trying to help each other,

It was quite a sweet atmosphere.

Everyone tried to make the best of it.

By the time I got to the front of the queue the man said that my flight had just left.

More than just me were disappointed as we did not know which gate it had departed.

Well, I have been booked onto a flight in the morning, which I took straight away.

Luckily walking half way round the world as it seemed

in this big airport I finally found my luggage again standing lonely on its own.

Then I found the counter to get a hotel voucher with dinner.

By the time I was at the hotel it was 9pm and I was exhausted.

Ready to fall into the lovely warm bed.

The reason for all this was that Heathrow had IT failure/ technical issues.

Many people were stranded. Link to the story here

The really funny thing is that on my way back home to London,

I encountered more IT problems.

This time in the plane so we could not start.

We had to get off the plane again back into the gate and wait for a spare plane to take us to London.

Back home I am overjoyed to see my beautiful daffodils greeting me at the entrance.

Paris – a quick trip

Standard

For the first time I went to Paris via the Eurostar – train.

What a wonderful way to travel.

It was easy, quick and very calm.

I loved it. Perfect for a quick break.

It went so impressively fast, we were in Paris from London in 2 and a quarter hours.

Once there,

We took it slowly and having been in Paris before

we just enjoyed the atmosphere and

some of the landmarks of Paris.

My favourite picture at the Tour Eiffel with Autumn colours:

Some more impressions

I will certainly explore more cities with the Eurostar, such a great and easy way to travel.

Have a great week!

Kew – a destination always worth it.

When ever you go,

it is exciting.

Every time there are different plants blooming,

there are more plants to discover and

I can practice and take pictures with my new phone camera.

You can never get tired of this beautiful Garden.

On a beautiful day another visit to Kew Gardens.

There is currently

an exhibition of Dale Chihuly‘s Glass Art in the midst of all plants.

It was a brilliant day with so much to see.

It started off with this amazing glass art sculpture.

While you walk around with me

you see his radiant colours of those glass art pieces

in the midst of plants in Kew.

They fit in so well.

Oslo Impressions – Part 4

Standard

You can also visit the Akershus Fortress,

It houses the Resistance Museum.

Beautiful on a sunny day!

It is rather a big area and great to explore.

I love a city with history.

We had a short city break in Oslo and loved it.

It is a great cultural city, has many museums and beautiful people.

There is so much more to see.

A reason to go again.

Oslo Impressions – Part 3

Standard

The city of Oslo has modern Opera house.

You can walk up and are rewarded with a beautiful view.

They are building a new Library at the right side of the picture.

You can see glass art from Monika Bonvicini called ‘She Lies‘.

It is a permanent installation, floating on the water in the fjord on a concrete platform, rising 12 metres (39 ft) above the water surface.

The sculpture turns on its axis in line with the tide and wind, offering changing experiences through reflections from the water and its transparent surfaces.

Oslo Impressions – Part 2

The city of Oslo has beautiful old buildings like the Parliament,

The University with an Aula

with paintings of Edvard Munch famous for his painting ‘The Scream

You can also visit the Rathus

a massive, dominant building at the harbour.

It took 19 years to build.

Its chimes you can hear every hour.

In this hall every year on 10th December the Nobel Prize is given out.
