Jigsaw Puzzle Review – Snowdrop Cottage

Standard

I have been given a 1000 piece Jigsaw puzzle to do and to review,

as you know I love doing puzzles.

It arrived on Friday.

I was already excited.

It is called Snowdrop Cottage and it is an original premium Ravensburger Puzzle,

Great German Quality.

Picture

It is wonderful to unpack a great quality puzzle

knowing how much I will enjoy doing it.

The joy begins on opening the box… the anticipation….

and I find the pieces, a leaflet, the 2018 catalog and a picture of the puzzle.

The picture – Snowdrop Cottage, perfect for the Winter season is  done by artist Howard Robinson.

It is the 11th in a series of English Cottages.

I love the picture.

When I study it more I find the warm cottage, lots of beautiful plants, many birds, different flowers, the well –

all in all a beautiful picture.

I already make my plan in my head how to tackle the puzzle.

Step 1 find all edge pieces

Step 2 sort colours  for house and roof

Step 3 go for it and enjoy.

Check out my progress:

The Puzzle was a delight to do. The most satisfying moment is when you put the last piece in. You feel you have achieved something and had fun doing it.

I started on Friday evening, continued on Saturday and finished it off on Sunday afternoon.  This 1000 piece puzzle would be a great starter puzzle for someone who has only done 500 pieces, but wants to go bigger.  The motive which is the very ‘busy’ and colorful picture of Snowdrop Cottage makes it easy to sort and follow where the pieces go. The soft click technology of the well known Ravensburger Company makes it so satisfying to put piece after piece in and you feel straight away if it fits or not. The different shapes also help solving the puzzle.

The making of the puzzle was fun and relaxing for me.

Puzzles are relaxing and almost like a meditation,

when you can study the picture and enjoy every bit in detail,

no rushing involved,

but take your time and do it calmly.

You can do it together with someone else and have a good and peaceful time.

If you enjoy doing puzzles I certainly recommend this puzzle from Ravensburger

and

it makes a great present too.

There are plenty more puzzles to choose from if you want a bigger challenge or just more fun.

done – hurray

Looking through the catalog I found my next one already – ‘The afternoon visitor’

How to enjoy a puzzle every step of the way!

Standard

I have been sent a 1000 piece puzzle by Debra to enjoy and to review.

As I love puzzling, I was very happy.

It is a brilliant way to relax,

to practice patience and

look at pictures in real detail.

This time it was ” The Brighton Belle” by Ravensburger.

A Premium Puzzle with Soft Click Technology.

belle

On opening the 1000 pieces were neatly packed in a bag. It included a leaflet showing the artists biography and additional picture for reference. As I can see from the included small catalogue that it is a new addition to the collection 2016.

The Drawing by Trevor Mitchell shows the 1st class service the Brighton Belle used to bring for 40 years. An excellent choice of the picture as it has many different colours and lines to be identified on each puzzle piece.

There is more information about “that the magic of fine rail dining in the 1930s, complete with attentive white jacketed Pullman stewards and those sumptuous surroundings” It will be recreated and the Brighton Belle will be in service again towards the end of 2016. If you like to read more please go to the Brighton Belle website. Rather interesting!

The 1000 pieces are great card quality which you can be sorted easily without the danger of breaking them or the fear of the actual picture coming off.

Through the many different objects and people on the picture one can sort really well into colours and also shapes depending how you as puzzler prefer it. I prefer sorting in shapes first then colours.

The great thing with a Ravensburger, once you find a piece and it fits – it really fits, it really ‘clicks ‘in.  It does have the soft click technology- not just a word- you can really feel it. You do not have to doubt if it is the right place as each piece is individually shaped. This is a big bonus and gives us puzzlers extra help especially for not such established puzzlers. The shapes are distinctive and sometimes you don’t even need to look at the picture so much. While doing piece by piece you feel and see the excellent quality.

belle3

See my progress….

belle6

My favourite moment is when I put the last piece in, I feel a sense of achievement and I can see the picture in full big glory.

belle8

I very much enjoyed doing this puzzle, it didn’t take long and even my children stopped by to put the odd piece in the right place. I can recommend this puzzle to all puzzlers out there and it would be a good start for someone who has never done 1000 pieces.

Enjoy!

Puzzle review

Standard

I do love doing a good puzzle

and to my joy I was invited to do a puzzle review

by Debra from TSS blog.

A puzzle is very relaxing and I really enjoy it.

the secretary (7)

Here it is:

“The Secretary” is a 500 piece premium puzzle. As you open the box you find the 500 pieces securely in a bag also an additional A4 picture of the puzzle picture, so you don’t need use the box with you to complete it. Also included is the artist’s biography and information about the Ravensburger Company.

The picture is a drawing by Trevor Mitchell of a secretary busily at work in a 1960s office. Trevor Mitchell who after attending Art College in Bradford worked for an advertising agency in London in 1979. He then returned to his native Yorkshire where he went freelance. He illustrated greeting cards and found a market for his paintings among publishers of art prints and jigsaw puzzles.

The Secretary drawing is a very detailed picture and the colours are vibrant. As an avid puzzler I would recommend this puzzle for beginners, young people or someone with little patience.  Starting with the frame and sorting the remaining pieces into colours this puzzle is fairly easy. The picture has clear lines to follow (the window frame, the doorframe) and many different objects like the coffee tray, the filing cabinet and the 5 plants which can be assembled separately and then put into the big picture.  It is like looking at a puzzle piece and you know instantly where it goes in the big picture.

read more here please .

Now that a bit of holiday comes I will chill out with another one.

Sun – Thomas Bergersen – Review

Standard

My favourite composer “Thomas Bergersen” did it again, he released a stunning new album called “Sun“.

…and I am in love with it…. a masterpiece, an amazing collection of dramatic, epic, and emotional tracks beautifully composed. If you love big orchestras and you are in for a big treat here.  Thomas Bergersen brings love and beauty with his music. He is a musical genius and one of the best composers at this time as he shows again with this new album.

I have to admit that I listened a lot to the 30 seconds you get on Amazon on each track, before it was released officially. Already then I fell in love with some tracks straight away and could hardly wait for the release day!

The album is like a musical journey full of love and excitement.  Every single track a stunning piece of music in its own way. A mix of calm, epicness, musical beauty and full of love. The orchestra is amazing and I can only imagine it was a real joy to perform for this album, singing in the choir and playing in the orchestra.

sun

Exerpt from the website:

Thomas’ follow up album to “Illusions” – “Sun” took him almost 4 years to complete and features his best, most heartfelt, virtuosic and powerful music to date.  It features a giant orchestra ( over 200 musicians contributed) choir, Bulgarian choir, famous world class instrumentalists and a wide range of styles, emotions and colours.  Recorded around the world, with contributing artists form all over the world including Bulgaria, Romania, Norway, USA, Brazil, Mexico, Germany and Italy.  “Sun” is without doubt Thomas Bergersen’s finest work to date , and the natural continiuation of “Illusions”.  The Orchestra, world famous “Capellen Orchestra” was recorded in Czech Republic and conducted by Maestro Petr Pololanik.  Using dynamic overdubbing (shuffling players around between each take) we achieved an absolutely massive string orchestra sound (168 payers in total, with 20 all stars first chair violinists), and a humongous brass ensemble sets the tone if the album.  Tracks such as Final Frontier feature 18 French Horns in unison!

This is what is says on the Two Steps from Hell web site, and I totally agree with it.

Track Listing

  1. Before Time
  2. Creation of Earth
  3. Sun
  4. Cry
  5. Our Destiny
  6. New Life
  7. Final Frontier
  8. Starchild
  9. Colours of Love
  10. Cassandra
  11. Always mine
  12. Dragonland
  13. Fearless
  14. Empire of Angels
  15. Two Hearts
  16. In Paradisum

The album starts off with a short, slow and calm track ‘Before time’  very melodic with a great cello followed by the first real dramatic track ‘Creation of Earth’.  ‘Sun’ already known to us before, it was on the you tube channel featuring Thomas’s girlfriend Cassandra, a romantic track with much orchestral beauty.  ‘Cry’ one of my very favourites is melodic and I so love the full orchestra in this piece, I cannot get enough of it.  ‘Our Destiny’ another dramatic track, amazing piano piece at the beginning, the choir, the fast and furious strings gives it this classical feeling like a  piece of Beethoven, very monumental and then it goes to pure epicness, an amazing piece to combine both types, ending in pure classical delight.  ‘NewLife’ brings a calm, soft, emotional side to life, a musical gem whereas  ‘Final Frontier’ is again an epic track . It features in the Trailer of the film “Interstellar” Sci-Fi Movie.  ‘Starchild’ is epic and fast and I could imagine it being music for a trailer again as you can imagine stories going along wiht it, it let’s your imagination run wild.  ‘Colours of Love’ – the title reminds me of ‘The Magic of Love’ ( from the album Archangel) which is pure musical love. The ‘Colours of love’ is the longest track of the album with 6.29 minutes and again you can feel the love and happiness. It is a very happy and cheerful track which could go on for even longer for me.  ‘Cassandra’ was dedicated to Thomas’s girlfriend, composed and shared some time ago it is a beautiful love song.  With ‘Always mine’ the love story continues, a melodic, happy and loving track, a great one to walk to as it gives you a real swing into your steps.  ‘Dragonland’ and ‘Fearless’ are real epic tracks again great trailer music for me.  ‘Empire of Angels’ starts slowly building up to the bigger orchestra with beautiful violin highlights then ending quietly again. ‘Two hearts’  an emotional track with chimes, a beautiful voice and violins, full of love.  The album ends with ‘In Paradisum’ a slow and calm track with choir (more like his ‘Hymn to life’). For me it could be the background for a meditation session.

Some tracks give you goosebumps, some make you smile,  some make you sing or hum to them, some inspire, they make you happy, they make you feel the love and  they let you gasp because of their musical awesomeness.

They certainly will be on my journeys along with his other albums whilst driving, walking and relaxing.

A musical sensation to be listened to with an open heart and full attention to every instrument playing –

a musical feast.

Two Steps from Hell – Two steps from Heaven Review

Standard

The new album is here

Two Steps from Heaven.2steps from heaven

The new orchestral album with music written by Thomas Bergersen, performed by a 120 piece orchestra and choir, conducted by Petr Pololanik, out now but unfortunately not for the public, it’s for motion picture advertising clients only. Thomas Bergersen’s pet-project was released under Two Steps from Hell and is mostly a Family Adventure & comedy style album with a few epic drama style tracks. It contains 19 main tracks including “Heart” & “Benedictus” which Thomas Bergersen posted to the public last year.

Trailer Music Fans seem to be divided in opinions about this album as not all tracks are as “epic” as some fans wanted it to be. This album though is a wonderful mix of epic tracks, real motion picture tracks, emotional tracks and big orchestral beauties.

Now it is possible to listen to the tracks on Extrememusic.com

Tracklist:

  1. Reach for the skies
  2. Motherland
  3. Strength of an Empire
  4. Benedictus
  5. Men of honour
  6. Welcome to Fantasia
  7. Liberty Rising
  8. Beyond the Horizon
  9. Cassandra
  10. Spirit of Maravia
  11. Forever More
  12. Shes a superhero
  13. Heart
  14. Into the moonlight
  15. Neptunes secret
  16. Hope
  17. Men of honour part II
  18. An awfully big adventure
  19. Gloria

Some tracks are purely written for action film trailers, it seems,  like ‘Reach for the Skies’, ’ Motherland’,  ‘Welcome to Fantasia’, ‘Beyond the Horizon’, ‘She’s a Superhero’, ‘Spirit of Moravia’  and ‘An awfully big Adventure’ as you can just imagine lots of film action with this music. ‘Neptune’s Secret’ would fit perfectly to a comedy. (It does remind me of Professor Pumplestickle from the album ‘The devil wears Nada’.) Other tracks do touch the heart and are quieter, melodic, harmonious, emotional  like ‘Men of Honour’, ‘Men of Honour part II’, ‘Forever More’. Then we have the pure epic track like “Strength of and Empire” with great build ups and fantastic full choir.

‘Heart’ was originally written by Thomas Bergersen to help Japan’s victims of the big earthquake, it is a beautiful, emotional piece. So are ‘Benedictus’,’ Into the Moonlight’ and ‘Gloria’, soft music, heavenly voices and lovely strings.

‘Cassandra’ seems to be in a league of its own for me, it is my favourite, it is epic, yet calm, beautiful, fantastic build up to the piece with the vocals .

Summary:

A melodic album with very different tracks, all have their own beautiful melody, with great orchestration, good drums, strings, pianos, beautiful voices and choirs. Again you can hear that they were composed by the very talented Thomas Bergersen. A feast for your ears! I love this album!

The new public releases “Halloween” ( it is a public release featuring music from various albums such as “Ashes”, “Shadows and Nightmares” and others. “Halloween” will also feature fantastic new spooky music and promises to be the ultimate Halloween party soundtrack.) It will be out on 25th September followed by Skyworld (Two Steps from Hell “Skyworld “ will be our third major public release featuring groundbreaking epic music with a modern twist. “Skyworld”  will be comprised over mostly new never before heard material. This album forges new ground and we believe it will be appreciated by two steps fans in October.)

……can’t wait!
