London has got a lovely idea about books. We discovered some book – benches at our day out yesterday!
There are 50 benches looking like open books all around London in 4 different trails. We found 3 benches. They look amazing.
All benches will be there for the Summer until 15th September.
The 50 BookBench sculptures will be sold at public auction on 7 October 2014 at an exclusive event at the Southbank Centre.
All proceeds will go to the National Literacy Trust, a charity dedicated to raising the literacy levels of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
Here the other benches which were following books:
The Railway Children
The Canterbury Tales
Girl Engrossed
See what other wonderful books are benches on this link!
I found it rather amazing and I will need to find more book benches, next time I am in town!
Enjoy your books and the sunshine!
Wow that is fantastic. I like the idea of that. Some cracking books there, although I am surprised not to see Pride & Prejudice in there or Jane Eyre, Sense and Sensibility.
I suppose it is hard to choose 50 famous good books. I shall definitely find more soon. 😀
It would be, they have to choose for all ages which is probably why they have Alex Rider and the Gruffalo.
Al there is Pride an Prejudice actually in Bloomsbury! Just found it!
That’s fantastic 😀
That is so cool, Ute. Do hope you get to see some more.
Will do when my sister is here….😆
Excellent.
What a fabulous idea! 🙂
Was für eine gute Idee. Die Bänke sind wunderschön. Ich hoffe, liebe Ute, du findest noch mehr davon.
Das hoffe ich auch, da gibt es noch viele bunte in London und ich moechte einige davon finden! ☼
What a great idea to raise funds for charity Ute – thanks for sharing these lovely photos!

It is indeed Diana, I love the idea!
Those are awesome. What creative ideas! Did you try sitting on them? Were they comfortable?
I did, first I thought they are not compfy but they are actually! 🙂
These are work of arts.
Indeed I love them…
Delightful Ute … and a Novel idea to boot. Thank You.
Be good to yourself
David
Thanks David, indeed a fantastic idea!
Truly amazing Ute! They are gorgeous and you’ve captured them so well! I wish I could have them all in my garden. Just think how literate the vervets could become! 😆
You know it would be great to have them in the garden… I wonder how much they go for in the auction in September… but I think they are beyond my budget. The monkeys would love it!
I don’t even want to think of how much it would cost Ute. Certainly something I won’t be able to afford either. LOL! Guess maybe it’s better that way, otherwise my garden would look like a fully stocked christmas pantry! hahahahah
Oh yes, they would! 😀

That’s lovely, I’ve never come across such benches. Where did you find them? I followed the link and found loads of book benches. They’re awesome Ute! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
My pictures are from Greenwich… But as you see there are lots more fun to explore. 😃
How awesome!
It certainly is !
Wow! This is amazing! I admire whoever thought of making these! And thanks to you for sharing! I’d love to have few in my garden too! What would be your books of choice?
A great idea that someone had. Well my choice .. that is hard, I love many books….the Jungle book is beautifully colourful… actually children’s books are great for the bench purpose as they are more colourful. I do love to read Ken Follett and other historic novels.
Those are absolutely gorgeous benches! Love and hugs to you too dear Ute.
Thanks I think so too!
Well how cool is that. Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, “Let me sit on that” while thinking through an issue.
Haha yes, that is true! 🙂
These photos are awesome. How incredible – i wonder how one goes about getting their own book made into a bench!
Good question…
This is a totally brilliant idea, Ute 🙂 Thanks for sharing it.
Link to my ‘walks’ if you find some more? I’d love it!
I thought so too, and I am going to look for more! Thanks Jo. Yes I will!

There is always some fun stuff going on in London! 🙂
That is soooo cool!!!!!! My book club girlfriends would love this!
They would probably love to buy it for their garden. I would but I think they go for a lot of money. They are quite comfy too!
